Judge Bernard M. Jones is a native of Oklahoma City. He attended Millwood Public Schools and later graduated from Bishop McGuiness High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, and his Juris Doctor from the Notre Dame Law School in South Bend, Indiana. Upon graduating from law school, Judge Jones practiced labor and employment and commercial litigation at the Columbus, Ohio office of Porter Wright Morris & Arthur, LLP, and later at the Oklahoma City office of McAfee & Taft. Prior to assuming the bench, Judge Jones was in private practice and served as an Associate Dean at Oklahoma City University School of Law.
Active in the community, Judge Jones serves on the boards of directors for several national, regional, and local not-for-profit and community organizations. He also previously served on Oklahoma’s Board on Legislative Compensation, and on the Board of Adjustment for the City of Oklahoma City— a quasi-judicial body responsible for ruling on requests for variances to City ordinances, oil and gas gases, and appeals from various City boards and commissions.
Judge Jones has been recognized by the Journal Record, Oklahoma Magazine, and OKC Biz as one of Oklahoma’s Achievers Under 40. He is also the recipient of the Journal Record’s Leadership in Law Award, and the Oklahoma City Association of Black Lawyers’ Ada Lois Sipuel Fisher Diversity Award.
