The Oklahoma County Social Services Division works with various funeral homes in the county to provide cremations at public expense to those who cannot afford to pay for these services.

Things you should know:

Referrals MUST come through the funeral home, and are made at the complete and total discretion of the funeral home.  Funeral homes are NOT required to work with the county to provide this service, and the county does NOT call funeral homes to urge assistance on anyone's behalf.

Strict eligibility requirements apply.

When a request is made for services at public expense, the body is automatically offered to the State Anatomical Board.  If the body is accepted by the Anatomical Board, Oklahoma County is removed from the process.

Oklahoma County can provide assistance only if the death occurred in Oklahoma County.
