(Oklahoma City) Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office (OCSO) employees raised a state record amount of cash for the Special Olympics, by jumping into frigid waters. Twenty-two OCSO deputies, detention officers, and youth Explorers many decked out in costumes braved 26 degree temperatures February 28, 2009, and jumped into an above ground swimming pool for Polar Plunge 2009. Officials had to break the ice in the pool before participants could jump.

The OCSO raised $9,133.00 cash in hand with an additional $200.00-$600.00 in pledges still outstanding. The OCSO fundraiser was a state record for the Polar Plunge, all of the money collected goes to Special Olympics. Statewide more than $114,000.00 dollars was raised by nearly 100 people who participated in the event.

In addition to the fundraising record the OCSO took home awards for:

 Most money raised - OCSO
Top fundraising group - OCSO Explorers
Best costume - Lt. Charles Avery

This event is a great cause and we look forward to continued support of Special Olympics in the future.
