WIA Application Information

WIA stands for Workforce Investment Act. This is a federally funded program with a work first initiative, "Helping people to go to work." TGA ClassWe offer different levels of service at our center under the Title I of WIA.

The following levels of service are prerequisite to each other. Some people may only need first level, some first and second. Third level is only considered if the person needs training to go to work or is working and needs to upgrade for better income opportunities.

First level is available to one and all -- no eligibility requirements apply. Services include job placement, job referrals, computer usage, resume assistance, copy and fax service relating to employment and/or education, labor market information, career search information, financial aid information and resources.

Second level is available to individuals who can benefit from staff-assisted help on an individual basis; career planning and development with a vocational advisor, comprehensive assessments to determine best career match, job development, financial planning, needs assessment to link with other resources and services that aid the customer or family to reach self-sufficiency and follow-up.

Third level is training. Adult WIA training can be in the form of on-the-job training, classroom training with a school and occupation pre-approved by our Workforce Board, apprentice training, an internship program or subsidized work experience. This level of service does have qualifying criteria such as:
  1. The customer must have received service from levels one and two.
  2. The customer needs training to go to work or is working and needs training to become self-sufficient and is unable to fund such training.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen (documentation required).
The first step for WIA registration for our center is to report on any Monday at 8:30 a.m. for a three-hour orientation. This One Stop Center is located at 7401 NE 23rd St., Oklahoma City, OK (between Air Depot and Midwest Blvd. in the Midwest City area).

The customer will discover the array of services offered at this center and take a short reading and math survey that morning if interested in intensive or training services.
