Description

SUMMARY: Responsible for operation of heavy equipment and loading of materials from the inventory at the construction yard. Responsible for the repairs, maintenance, and planning completion of the highway traffic signs for the district highway department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following:

 Maintains regular attendance at work and is consistently on-time;
 Completes inspections of highway signs during and for completion of highway projects;
 Utilizes the guidelines of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices in all functional areas of traffic control devices (i.e. street marking, sign installation, sign fabrication, and signal maintenance and installation);
 Ensures the repair and maintenance of traffic signs are completed;
 Compiles and reviews data from various traffic and highway manuals in order to determine feasible methods to utilize in capacity studies (volume of service of a roads' intersection, etc.);
 Requires availability to work after normal working hours for emergency calls for the district;
 Immediately reports to supervisor or superintendent any issues involving safety or performance issues associated with highway signs;
 Operates Loader, Skid Steer and other equipment in the yard to load trucks and pile materials;
 Keeps track of inventory of building materials and maintains proper records in accordance with State Auditor and Inspector standards;
 Maintains equipment used in the yard and performs regular and routine maintenance;
 Performs general upkeep on the building and grounds, maintaining an appropriate appearance for the facilities;
 Assists the superintendent and shop foreman, as needed;
 Maintains a clean shop, and in a safe environment;
 Works in a safe manner and reports any safety issues immediately to supervisor, superintendent or county safety coordinator;
 Other duties may be assigned.

Experience

Certification in technical training school, and/or combined experience/education; demonstrated experience or training in traffic/sign operations (i.e. 1-2 years minimum years' experience highly desirable). Experience operating and maintaining heavy equipment.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

 Valid Oklahoma Driver's License
 Certification of Manual Uniform Traffic Control Devices ( MUTCD)

Education Required

High school diploma or GED
