SUMMARY: Seeking an incumbent to establish and operate an educational and vocational guidance service that will assist offenders that have been assigned to the Community Sentencing Program in finding and establishing employment opportunities in the local business communities. This will include Oklahoma County as well as the surrounding areas.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following:

 Maintains regular attendance at work and is consistently on-time;
 Will have daily direct contact with offenders that are participating in the Community Sentencing Program;
 Networks with local employers, labor unions and community service agencies to develop job training, apprenticeships and positions dedicated to Oklahoma County Community Sentencing offenders within the local business community;
 Consults with Probation Officers to identify offenders in need of job, life skill and other training and provide it either directly or by appropriate referral to community provider;
 Assist offenders with building resumes and building stronger interviewing skills on a case by case need;
 Develops employability plans for offenders bases upon acceptable methods and tools;
 Collects, organizes and analyzes information about clients through records, tests, interviews and professional resources, to appraise their interest, aptitudes, abilities and personality characteristics for vocational, educational and employment counseling, training, planning and placement;
 Refers offenders to appropriate job openings;
 Keeps applicable records of applicants not selected for employment and develops a plan of action to assist the offender in overcoming their specific barriers to employment;
 Identify auxiliary services required to prepare applicants for job readiness status (i.e. instruction in resume writing, use of interviewing techniques, job readiness and job search activities) and provide workshops or refer to community services to meet this need;
 Arranges for skills, academic or other testing of applicants;
 Will travel occasionally for needs of networking and building employment relationships. (When traveling for county business will be reimbursed for mileage per the rate declared by IRS)
 Schedule could be flexible at times, with approval of Supervisor
 Other duties not listed below, but of a similar, related or logical assignment to the position may be assigned.

Experience

Two years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience; knowledge of job training program regulations; previous experience in the operation of employment and training programs; skills related to training, counseling, and assessment using a variety of instruments; knowledge of and skill in interviewing, assessing qualifications, and providing career guidance to customers from various socio-economic backgrounds; skill in oral and written communications; ability to form good employer relations with the public and private sectors; good presentation skills for training workshops and group orientations; ability to develop goals and objectives ; computer literate; skill in using tact and diplomacy while interacting with co-workers, employers and clients.

Education Required

Bachelor's degree from a four year college or university (Degrees in Education, Human Resources, Business Management and Rehabilitative Counseling is highly preferred)
