                                     The Honorable Daniel L. Owens

                                          District Judge

The Honorable Daniel L. Owens is a District Judge for the Seventh Judicial District of Oklahoma.  He was elected to office in January 1991, and reelected in 1995 and 1999.  Judge Owens served as Presiding Administrative Judge for the district for the years 1995 and 1996.  He received his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Central State University and his Juris Doctorate from Oklahoma City University School of Law.  Judge Owens served as Survey Editor of the OCU Law Review for three years and served as Vice Magister of the Hand Inn of the Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity.

In private practice Judge Owens practiced in the areas of products liability, civil rights defense, insurance defense, and limited general practice.  He has worked as a government lawyer as director of enforcement and chief litigator for the Oklahoma Department of Securities.  In addition, he has served as the chief of the White Collar Crime Division, chief of the Juvenile Division and as a general felony attorney for the Oklahoma County District Attorney's Office.

Judge Owens is a member of the Oklahoma County Bar Association, the Oklahoma Bar Association, the American Judges Association, the Oklahoma Judicial Conference and he has served and is presently serving as the President of the Oklahoma Trial Judges Association. He is a member of the Bohanon Inns of Court and is serving as President of the Inn for 2000-2001.  Judge Owens serves on the committee for law related education for the Oklahoma Bar Association.  Judge Owens is admitted to practice in all United States District Courts in Oklahoma and in the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Judge Owens was appointed by Chief Justice Yvonne Kauger to serve as the trial judge member of a blue ribbon committee to develop time standards for the Courts of Oklahoma.  He was awarded the Oklahoma City University Law Review Outstanding Alumni Award in 1997.

Judge Owens has been a continuing legal education speaker at the following seminars:  The Best and Worst Trial Tactics as seen by the Bench(1991); Surviving Discovery Disputes and Settlement Negotiations-The Bench Perspective(1992); Discovery in Medical Malpractice Offenders & the System:  The Judge's Role and Perspective in the Preliminary Hearing, Trial and Sentencing (1993); The Best and Worst Trial Tactics as Seen by the Bench (1995); The Admissibility of Computer Generated Evidence (1996); Winning by Jury Selection (1997); Truth in Sentencing (1998); Handling Discovery Disputes (Summer Judicial Conference-1999) and Revised Court Rules for Oklahoma County (2000).
