                                        District Judge

Judge Black moved to Oklahoma at the age of 15, attended and graduated from John Marshal High School in 1963.  He attended Central State College for 2 years.  In 1967 he married Marsha Kay Richardson.  In 1967 he left a reserve unit and went on active duty.  The next 5 years he served in Kansas, Germany and Southeast Asia.  After completing the Special Warfare School in Panama he was assigned with an infantry company in South Vietnam.

in 1972 he returned to Oklahoma from the Army and joined the Oklahoma City Police Department.  He was assigned to a patrol division in the northeast quadrant of Oklahoma City.  While serving as a police officer he attended OSU where he received an Associate Degree in Police Science.  He then entered Oklahoma City University where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice.  He entered Law School and continued as an officer until 1977.  Following the granting of his license he worked in the Office of the District Attorney.  He was assigned to a trial team headed by Andrew Coats.  During the next 6 years he was promoted to team leader and ultimately to Chief of the Felony Division.

In 1983 he left the District Attorney's Office and entered private practice where he specialized in trial practice.

In 1991 he was nominated by the Judicial Nomination Commission and appointed by the governor to the position of District Judge.  In 1993, when the district split in civil and criminal divisions, he was assigned to the criminal docket.  At present he is the senior District Judge of that division.

Judge Black has attended the National Judicial College in Reno, Nevada and completed courses on forensic evidence and DNA as well as Capital Litigation.

Judge Black is a frequent speaker at continuing legal education courses, judicial education courses and police academies.  He is the author of Courtroom Testimony printed in the Sheriff's and Peace Officer's Journal.

He is a member of the State and County Bar Associations.  He is admitted to practice in the Federal Courts and is a former member of the American and Oklahoma Trial Lawyers' Association and a former officer of the District Attorney Association.
