I was born in Hutchinson, Kansas, on September 2, 1946, and attended schools in Kansas, Oklahoma and Indiana.  I graduated from Harding High School in Oklahoma City, 1964.  I then served for four years in the United States Army Security Agency as  a Russian linguist.  I was taught Russian at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California, and received special training at Vint Hill Farms Station, Virginia.  I served in various units of the ASA in West Germany.  I was discharged as a Specialist 6 (E-6) in 1968.

After the military, I attended the University of Oklahoma from 1968 through 1972, earning a Bachelor of Arts with Distinction in Political Science, followed by the almost obligatory Master of Arts in Political Science.  Later, I attended Oklahoma City University and obtained a Juris Doctorate.  The Greek letters which occasionally follow me around are Phi Beta Kappa, Pi Sigma Alpha, Delta Phi Alpha and Phi Delta Phi.

From 1971 through 1979, prior to obtaining the JD and practicing law, I worked for the Oklahoma Legislative Council, which was the staffing and research arm of the legislature.  At the Legislative Council, I staffed various legislative committees as a research analyst including the Insurance Committee, the two education committees, the Roads and Highways Committee, and numerous special investigative committees.

After leaving the Legislature, I practiced law with James F. Howell and Associates in Midwest City for approximately 16 years.  I was appointed to the bench as a special judge in 1986 and again in 1997.  I have served in the Domestic Relations Division and the Criminal Division and currently I have been in the Special Trial Division for approximately seven years.

I reside in Oklahoma City with my wife Margaret, and five or six dogs.
