Flooding in Crutcho Area to be Addressed by County
Commissioner Roth Hosts Town Hall Discussion
Oklahoma County – District One Commissioner Jim Roth hosted a town hall meeting, on Saturday, June 25th, with citizens of Crutcho to discuss proposed drainage improvements in the Crutcho Park Addition. Crutcho, an unincorporated community, in Eastern Oklahoma County, lies within the flood plain of Crutcho Creek and the North Canadian River and has been plagued with water problems for decades.

Flooding occurs in the area because there is relatively little elevation change between the community and river allowing for drainage to occur. In times of heavy rain, the North Canadian River can actually back up into Crutcho Creek worsening the situation for area residents.
Roth, County Engineering and Development staff, and Dennis Clowers, of Clowers Engineering Company, were on hand to explain and field questions related to an engineering study of the area. The study, and resulting plans, are the result of a similar meeting held in May 2004
“The people of Crutcho have dealt with this issue for years, without much success,” Roth said. “I’m pleased we had the opportunity to receive citizen input and support and we look forward to moving ahead with this important project.”
Roth told those in attendance the project would be a priority and the money necessary to complete the project had been budgeted for in the upcoming fiscal year.
It is anticipated that work on the project will commence in the fall of 2005 and take several months to complete. Cost of the project is estimated at $ 227,000. |
