Oklahoma County (March 26, 2008) - Oklahoma City – Oklahoma County – At their regular Wednesday meeting, the Oklahoma County Board of County Commissioner’s (BOCC) approved the first step toward a comprehensive, scientific approach to prioritizing road projects within the county’s three highway districts. Implementing the County Wide Pavement Management System would give the Commissioners and their Superintendents a vital tool to ensure taxpayer funds are spent in the most effective manner possible

“Today’s action by the board is an important and critical first step toward enhancing transparency and openness when it comes to expenditures of road funds in Oklahoma County,” Commissioner Johnson said. “The citizens of Oklahoma County deserve to know that when it comes to spending taxpayer funds, the Board of County Commissioners is serious about doing so in a manner that results in the best bang for the buck.”

The resolution, passed by a 3-0 vote of the board, directs the County Engineer to seek and evaluate Requests for Proposal (RFP’s) for a County Wide Pavement Management System. The Engineer will work along side of the three Highway Superintendents to gather and review the proposals and make a recommendation to the BOCC.”

If the Board were to approve the contract for the provision of the service, the implementation of the County Wide Pavement Management System would provide the districts with necessary scientific data regarding the county’s road system. Further, it would serve as an additional tool in each district’s scheduling of new construction, maintenance and/or rehabilitation activities of existing county road and bridge projects.

Commissioner Johnson went on to express her appreciation for the support of the other Commissioners, “As the newest member of the Oklahoma County Board of County Commissioners it is exciting to me that the three of us are able to work together to ensure good government for the citizens of this great county. I want to thank Commissioners Vaughn and Rinehart for their support.”

Commissioner Johnson closed by saying “I am confident that once the recommendation is received my colleagues and I will again be able to come together and implement the County Wide Pavement Management System in order to modernize the way each of us approaches utilization of our limited road funds.”
