Jones (October 10th, 2006) – District One County Commissioner Jim Roth attended a ribbon cutting ceremony this past Saturday in Jones to celebrate the “official” grand opening of the city’s Beatty Mulhausen Park and Walking Trail. The ceremony was hosted by Jones Mayor Matt Elerick and the Town’s Board of Trustees.

Mayor Elerick thanked several civic organizations and members of the community for their support of the project. “On behalf of the Trustees and the residents of Jones, I want to express our appreciation to everyone involved with this project.” Elerick continued, “This Park is a great example of what can be accomplished when governments work together with their citizens for the betterment of the community.”

Mayor Elerick said the development of the park had a long term priority for Jones, and that upon receiving the land as a gift from the Mulhausen Estate, the town established a three member park committee made up of representatives from the local IOOF, the Jones Masonic Lodge, and the Jones Kiwanis. The purpose of the committee was to oversee the development of the park, fund raise, and to eek volunteer labor or other donations necessary to make the park a reality.

Commissioner Jim Roth said his office was approached by Mayor Elerick and the Park Committee for assistance with the walking trail in 2004. Construction of the half-mile long jogging and bike trail, which surrounds the park’s perimeter, was completed in 2005. Roth said that under the terms of the Inter-Local Agreement authorizing the construction, District One paid for all but $3,000 of more than $35,000 total project.

Speaking of his district’s involvement with the project, Roth said he was pleased that his crews were able to do the work and that they enjoy the opportunity to improve the infrastructure of each and every community in the district. Roth concluded, “I’m glad we were able to have a role in building something that each and every resident of Jones can enjoy.” The people of Jones are to be congratulated for their dedication and commitment to this outstanding project.”
