The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center

Teaching, Research and Patient Care

An internationally prominent faculty, state-of-the-art facilities and new technology combine to make the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center a leader in education, research and patient care.

One of only four comprehensive academic health centers in the nation with seven professional schools, the OU Health Sciences Center serves more than 3,000 students on campuses in Oklahoma City and Tulsa.

The OU Health Sciences Center serves as the state's training facility for physicians, biomedical scientists, nurses, dentists, pharmacists, and a wide range of allied health and public health professionals. Located one mile south of the state capitol, the OU Health Sciences Center is the cornerstone of the 275-acre Oklahoma Health Center, a complex of 26 public and private health care institutions. Students and residents receive clinical training at on-site institutions, including the OU Medical Center, Children's Hospital at OU Medical Center and Veterans Affairs Medical Center. In addition, affiliate training programs are maintained at hospitals and clinics throughout the state.

The OU Health Sciences Center traces its beginnings to 1900, when the OU College of Medicine was founded as a two-year pre-clinical school. Ten years later, the college merged with the Epworth Medical College in Oklahoma City and became a four-year degree-granting school.
