Oklahoma City Community College is situated on a 143 acre tract south of Interstate 240 on South May Avenue. Groundbreaking for the college began in 1971 and construction followed in 1972, opening for classes on September 25, 1972 as South Oklahoma City Junior College. In 1983 the name was changed to Oklahoma City Community College.

The college offers a full range of associate degree programs that prepare students to transfer to baccalaureate institutions. Other degree and certificate programs are designed to prepare students for immediate employment in a variety of fields. Additionally, a wide range of community and continuing education courses, workshops, conferences, and seminars are offered. The college is well-known for its Aquatic Center which hosted the 1989 U.S. Olympic Festival aquatic events. The Aquatic Center with its eight-lane, 50-meter swimming pool and separate diving well and diving towers enhances educational, wellness, and recreational activities for students as well as members of the community.

The Oklahoma City Community College serves more than 28,000 people each year.
