Bullies

We see a great need to bring awareness on the problem of Bullying. Bullying takes on many different forms and characteristics, it can go from verbal teasing to physical and emotional violence. Bullying is no longer defined as a part of normal childhood, and it is preventing our children from learning in a safe environment.

Individuals that are the target of continued bullying behavior can have extreme fear and stress. The may fear going to school, using the school bathroom, or riding a school bus. Children often display physical symptoms of illness caused by the stress of bullying.

When bullying behaviors are allowed and continue, the perpetrator can escalate into even more negative behavior, such as sexual harassment and criminal activity in higher grades and adulthood.

Bullying can become a cycle that affects not only children, but everyone involved. Bullying may start at school, then continue, at home, and then affect the community. We must begin to speak out against the bullying cycle and help the targets and bullies themselves.
