Admission and Orientation

Upon arrival, a juvenile is required to participate in the admission process. The juvenile is required to undergo a search and clothing exchange, in which all personal property is relinquished and secured until his/her release. In addition, the juvenile participates in an interview, designed to gather information about the resident. The resident is informed of his/her right, the rules of conduct, and his/her responsibilities during detainment. Finally, the resident is administered the Slosson Oral Reading Test-Revised, prior to leaving the Orientation Unit to assist with school placement.

Beginning with the first day of detainment in the facility, his/her behavior is monitored. Upon completion of facility orientation, the majority of residents progress to general population status, provided behavior is appropriate.
