Practicum ProgramThe Oklahoma County Juvenile Bureau has available for vocational, undergraduate, and graduate students, a practicum program. A practicum is a supervised on-the-job learning experience that allows students to apply classroom knowledge and theory to a practicum work situation. The student is usually a junior or senior who works on a job that is directly related to their major field of interest. The program will basically give students the opportunity to learn through hands-on-experience. It prepares students to be more adequately and realistically prepared to enter the working world. It also allows students to make enlightened career choices. Students can be referred to the Oklahoma County Juvenile Bureau through their college, university, or vocational school. Students must be approved for their practicum by their major professor with a signed letter. Students who are allowed to work at the Oklahoma County Juvenile Bureau or Juvenile Detention Center will be required to fill out an application, submit to a background check, and go through an orientation and training process. They will also be required to follow all agency policies and procedures and will understand that violating any confidentiality policy can result in their termination from the practicum program. Upon the students" completion of the practicum, the Practicum Supervisor will provide the school with final performance evaluations of the students. In turn, the Practicum Supervisor and Administration will ask the students to evaluate the practicum and their work experience at the center. Practicum Program Outline Upon acceptance into the Oklahoma County Juvenile Bureau Practicum Program the student will experience hands on learning throughout the Center. The student will gain knowledge of the Juvenile Justice Center with an understanding of Court Intake and Probation Services, Community Service Work Programs, LINK Program, Side-Track Program, and out Survival Skill for Young Women Program. In Detention, the practicum student will have a full view of all shifts, central control, and understanding of Detention Center Policy and Procedures. The Bureau carries out orders of the Juvenile Division of the District Court and serves all process regarding juvenile matters. We gladly give the opportunity for education through our center.
