Juvenile Rights
You will not be set apart as different because of you race, color, nationality, creed, sex physical
handicap, religion or political opinions. You, and all other residents, will go by the same set of Detention Rules and
be involved in the same programs and work assignments. All residents who take part in Detention Programs and services
will be looked after and under the control of Detention Staff only.
1. You have the right to be treated with respect and fairness.
2. You have the right to be informed of the rules of Detention during admission.
3. You have the right not to have physical punishment, be annoyed, threatened, hurt, assaulted or made fun of. You
will not be bothered during times of normal body activities, like eating, sleeping or going to the bathroom, by any
other resident or staff.
4. You have the right to practice the religion of your choice.
5. You have the right to food that is good for you, a good bed with clean sheets, a shower every day, clean clothes,
working toilets, good light and air and an overall safe place.
6. You have the right to have visitors and to get letters. It is your right to mail letters without the staff
reading them.
7. You have the right to talk to, write letters to and see your lawyer. You will always have the courts available to you.
8. You have the right to be given all clean clothes by Detention. You will be given detention shoes upon admissions. Your
personal shoes will be placed in your property.
9. You have the right to ask for medical attention by completing a Re quest for Medical Attention Form.
10. You have the right to be sure all your property is logged and kept in a safe place.
11. You have the right to talk to persons within an organization as long as it doesn't disrupt the order or security
of Detention
12. You have the right to both indoor and outdoor recreation.
13. You have the right to not do work for which you would usually be paid, except for cleaning and maintenance
of Detention.
14. You have the right to report any problems or complaints while in Detention without being afraid to do so.
15. You have the right to call the Office of Client Advocate if you are abused, the number is 521-3491.
16. You have the right to wear and style you hair any way you choose as long as it is not a health hazard or
inciteful. Hair care services are provided by the facility, when needed. This includes facial hair. |
