Program Goals

The goals of this program are three-fold.
  1. First, the young women in the program will acquire a fundamental knowledge of urban survival skills and the community resources available to enhance their skills in those areas through classes taught by expert guest speakers.
  2. Second, the young women will have no further delinquent referrals in the juvenile justice system.
  3. and third, the participants will learn how to obtain a variety of community services for themselves and their families.

The program consists of two evening classes per week for six weeks, with each class meeting from 6:00PM to 7:30PM. A different topic and speaker are presented each class for a total of twelve topics in all. The classes are offered in two different locations in Oklahoma City; Monday and Wednesday on the North side and Tuesday and Thursday on the South side.
We realize that it may not be possible to provide anything more than a few basic concepts during the one and a half hour class. Our objective is to develop the girl's knowledge of the resources available to them when they need help, and to promote a relationship with the agencies represented by the speakers.
