Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office Scanning Project

In 2002 the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office partnered with IT to develop a document scanning application. In May of 2003 the Sheriff’s Office began utilizing the software to scan and electronically store historical inmate records. To date, the Sheriff’s Office has successfully scanned all inmate paper records including those that pre-date statehood. In addition to inmate records, other document types have been scanned and are now stored in electronic format.

The Sheriff’s Office has greatly benefited from the custom software developed by Oklahoma County IT. A few of the advantages include:

● the freeing up of valuable floor space by eliminating file cabinets,
● protecting irreplaceable records from fire, flood, and other disasters,
● increased productivity since the records can be searched, viewed and printed from an employee’s desk.

The document scanning project is only one example of the Sheriff’s Office partnering with IT to maximize the use of technology to create efficiencies in the operation of the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office.
