Training Division
The Training Division is responsible for employee training including
deputies, detention officers, civilian and reserve personnel. The training staff consists
of 8 members under the supervision of Captain Chester Longacre. Training is conducted at
our training facility located in eastern Oklahoma County. The training center has
classrooms, pistol and rifle ranges, driver training track and a bomb disposal site. In
1998 more than 256 blocks of instructions were taught. Since 1997 a new 40-hour
mini-academy for all deputies has been implemented increasing annual training for each
deputy by 500%, a new defensive driving course and a real-life firearms qualification
course were developed, field and detention training were consolidated, the first course
catalog was published, and several national and regional training events were hosted. In
1998 the Oklahoma County Sheriffs Office became the first law enforcement agency in
the state to be certified as an American Heart Association training center for CPR.
