COMMUNITY SERVICES DIVISION The Community Services Division was created in April 1997, to better communicate with the citizens we serve. Captain Rickey Barrow supervises the Division which is staffed by 18 full-time personnel and supported by 8 reserve deputies.
New programs implemented include DARE, Triad, Law Enforcement Explorers, Graffiti Swat Team, and the Reality Check program. In 1998, the first Community Policing Service Center was opened in Quail Springs Mall and a second Station in Spencer, Ok. We have other stations planned for south and west Oklahoma County. Future programs include a youth camp, summer job program, and a Sheriff’s Athletics League. The work of this division has provided an opportunity to truly make a difference in our neighborhoods. Issues of crime, drugs, violence and gangs are easier to address when we work together as partners. Most recently we implemented a School Resource Deputy Program in several school districts in Oklahoma County. We currently have 5 School Resource Deputies assigned to Deer Creek and Crooked Oak Schools. We recently received a grant from the Department of Justice for 6 additional School Resource deputies. These deputies will be placed in Jones, Millwood and Francis Tuttle Vo-Tech schools. We also have a new Community Policing Service Center located in Crossroads Mall, lower level next to Foley's department store. |
