The Tactical Unit handles situations which require specialized equipment and training which includes barricaded suspects, hostage incidents, execution of high-risk arrests, and high-risk search warrants. The SWAT teams’ sole objective is to save lives using modern tactics, teamwork, and special equipment.

The Sheriff’s Tactical Unit has primary responsibility for all unincorporated areas, Tinker Air Force Base, and other agencies.

The Tactical Unit consists of a team of deputies and support personnel including:

• Doctor
• Respiratory specialist
• Tactical paramedic
• Negotiators
• Chaplain

The majority of training is provided by our own certified instructors whose areas of expertise include firearms, defensive tactics, chemical agent deployment, less-than-lethal weapons use, emergency driving, tactical search and clearing procedures, and deputy survival.
