Judicial Services Bureau

The Judicial Services Division was formed in March, 1997, by combining the Civil and Criminal units into one unit comprising 18 deputies under the supervision of Captain  Kelly Marshall. Primary duties are the service of court process including criminal warrants, subpoenas, civil process, victim protective orders, evictions, lock-outs, and lawsuit summons. This division holds court ordered property sales and provides extradition of persons arrested out of the county . In 1998, this division served 14,315 civil processes. Judicial Services is also responsible for transporting  inmates from the Department of Corrections to the Oklahoma County Jail for prosecution. 98,210 miles were logged in 1998, down from 136,180 in 1997 due to streamlining the operation for cost savings. 98,501 miles were logged in 1998 on out-of-state extraditions and just recently we contracted with a private company to transport some inmates which cut costs by as much as 50% each trip.

In August, 1998, for the first time in history, each deputy was assigned a Sheriff’s Office owned vehicle, ending the requirement that deputies furnish their own vehicles and receive mileage. This cut the cost to deputies and was a major cost savings for the Sheriff’s Office. Protective body armor and shotguns are now provided to all Judicial Services deputies.

The Judicial Services Bureau is comprised of several divisions and units responsible for working directly with the District Courts and handling most of the court orders that are processed.
