Jury Recommends Life without Parole after Finding Gustavo Peralta Guilty of Murder

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

December 17, 2025

OKLAHOMA CITY – An Oklahoma County jury has found Gustavo Peralta guilty of two counts of First-Degree Murder in connection with the August 2021 killings of Ramon Sosa, 16, and Angela Sosa, 52. After a four-day trial, the jury returned guilty verdicts on both counts and recommended a sentence of life without the possibility of parole for both counts.

“This case involved deliberate, violent acts that ended two lives and devastated a family,” said Vicki Zemp Behenna, Oklahoma County District Attorney. “Charging a juvenile as an adult is not a decision we take lightly, but the facts of this case demanded it. Our foremost responsibility is to protect the community from individuals we believe pose a serious danger in the future.”

Under Oklahoma law, when the State seeks life without the possibility of parole for a defendant who was a juvenile at the time of the crime but charged as an adult, the trial must be conducted in two phases. In the first phase, the jury determines guilt. If the defendant is convicted, as was the case with Peralta, the jury then hears additional evidence in a second phase of the trial to determine sentencing.

The convictions stem from an incident on August 7, 2021, in southwest Oklahoma City. Evidence presented at trial showed that 16-year-old Ramon Sosa arrived at a residence near Southwest 49th Street in a Dodge Durango with his grandmother, 52-year-old Angela Sosa.

Video footage and witness testimony established that Ramon Sosa entered the backyard of the residence with Gustavo Peralta and did not return. Ramon Sosa was later found deceased in the backyard after being shot.

After shooting Ramon Sosa, Peralta approached the Dodge Durango and shot Angela Sosa, who was seated inside the vehicle. Peralta then left the scene in the Durango, which officers located near Southwest 5th Street and May Avenue.

Peralta fled from the Durango and officers on foot into a wooded area nearby. He was found in the Oklahoma River by a K-9 officer and taken into custody.

“This was a calculated and devastating act of violence that took two lives and permanently altered a family,” said Oklahoma County District Attorney Vicki Behenna. “Our prosecutors worked tirelessly to ensure the jury heard the full truth of what happened. We are grateful to the jury for holding the defendant accountable and to the investigators who pursued justice for Ramon and Angela Sosa.”

District Attorney Vicki Behenna thanks the jurors for their careful deliberation and recognizes the dedication of the Oklahoma City police officers, detectives and prosecutors whose work led to the verdict.
