The conviction stems from an April 24, 2020, shooting in the 2100 block of S.W. 67th Street in Oklahoma City. According to detectives, Oklahoma City police officers responded to that location at 9:43 a.m. and found Gates lying in the street with a gunshot wound to the upper torso.

Surveillance video showed Jaedynn opened the cash register drawer and handed Gonzalez money from the drawer. After he had the money in hand, Gonzalez stabbed Jaedynn one time and left the store. When police arrived at 2:45 a.m., they found Jaedynn dead. Anthony left the store with less than $40.
