FOR IMMEDIATE RELASE

August 6, 2025

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma County District Attorney Vicki Zemp Behenna has charged Alex Berry, 32, with Murder in the First Degree and Violation of a Protective Order in connection with the July 20, 2025, fatal shooting of his former girlfriend Jonni Salazar. The charges were filed following an investigation by the Bethany Police Department and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI).

“The murder of Jonni Salazar is a devastating reminder of the toll domestic violence continues to take on families in our community,” said District Attorney Behenna.

“Ms.Salazar lost her life in front of her children - an unthinkable trauma that no child should ever endure. As a mother, I grieve for what her family is experiencing. As District Attorney, I am committed to using every legal tool available to pursue justice on her behalf. Jonni deserved to be safe. She deserved to be heard in life, and we will make sure her voice is not forgotten.”berry_alex

Bethany police received a 9-1-1 call just after 8 a.m. on July 20. When they responded to the Western Oaks Apartment Complex, they found Salazar shot to death in her vehicle.

Based on evidence at the scene and witness interviews, police identified the suspect as Berry, who is the father of Salazar’s two children. Police learned that the Court ordered an emergency protective order against Berry on July 14, 2025, prohibiting him from contacting Salazar (PO-2025-2090). Berry was also arrested by Del City police in June for Stalking Salazar (CF-2025-3093).Berry was arrested and booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on a $10 million dollar bond. He remains in custody.

CASE #: CF-2025-3551

Criminal charges are based on probable cause to believe a person has committed a crime. All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
