Oklahoma County, OK- Commissioner Jason Lowe proudly accepted the distinguished Opio Toure Statesperson Award from the Oklahoma Democratic Party at a special ceremony held on June 21st, 2025. The award, which celebrates the legacy and impact of the late State Representative Opio Toure, was presented to Lowe in recognition of his unwavering commitment to public service and for being a steadfast voice for Oklahoma’s most vulnerable communities.

Opio Toure was a celebrated civil rights leader, educator, and public servant whose work profoundly influenced the lives of countless Oklahomans. His dedication to empowering marginalized communities and advocating for equity remains an enduring inspiration. During his law school years, Commissioner Lowe had the unique opportunity to be mentored by Toure, gaining invaluable insights into the struggles and triumphs of advocacy work. This experience solidified Lowe's commitment to serving the public and addressing systemic inequalities in the Criminal Justice System and beyond.

“Receiving the Opio Toure Award is the highest honor I could imagine,” said Lowe. “Of all the awards and recognitions, I have received in my career, this one holds the most profound meaning. Opio Toure's legacy is a constant reminder to me of the importance of fighting for justice and the power of unwavering dedication to our communities.”

Lowe's work as a public servant aligns closely with Toure’s vision, making this accolade particularly significant. The Oklahoma Democrats highlighted Lowe's ongoing efforts to build a better future for all Oklahoma residents, emphasizing his dedicate leadership and commitment to reforming the criminal justice, and advocating for underserved communities both as a State Legislator and Criminal Defense Attorney, and now as County Commissioner.
